Decline In Crime
Crime rates in the Bronx are at levels that have not been seen in decades. Violent crime is down 73% since 1990. During this time the number of homicides in the Bronx has been reduced by 81%, from 653 in 1990 to 127 in 2010. Furthermore, 2010 was the fourteenth consecutive year with fewer than 200 homicides. The number of homicides remain at a level not seen since the 1960s. Burglary and grand larceny auto also declined again in 2010 and are down substantially from 1990 levels (83% and 91% respectively). Although robbery increased 11.6% from 2009 to 2010, robbery has decreased 74% since 1990.
